Getting in the Holiday Spirit

It's a little harder this year to get in the holiday spirit.  This is my first post since the fall.  Losing my beloved sister in law in September has left a huge void in our lives.  Life, as they say, goes on though, family and friends are sharing the same struggle in together we will carry on, counting our blessings and grateful for each other.
Family traditions help, the continuity and familiarity are comforting.

Thanksgiving was quiet, just us and Pauline and Lee.  We kept it light with the annual watching of Christmas Vacation and Elf.  Wonderful food and a walk on the beach.

Tree day is always festive around here.  We have gone to Mahoney's every year since we moved to Falmouth and enjoy the whole ambiance greatly.  They have a stable of "Christmas animals" we always enjoy seeing.  I do dearly love the Christmas Llama.  This year we even had a heckler!  One of the guys waiting around to help you with your tree said he'd seen mortgages go through faster than our family picks a tree.  Funny guy.

The following weekend was our traditional cookie day.  This was the first year Michael had ever not had to work and joined us.  It was a fantastic time even if we were not as creative as we've been in former years.
I particularly enjoy spending this day each year with my niece and nephew, they are pretty awesome people.
Friends and family come in and out taking a turn, visiting and Mom puts out a fantastic sandwich lunch.

Mike learning the ropes from my brother in law David.
It begins with cookies, lots and lots of cookies.
My Mom got the recipe off of a Land o Lakes butter package when we were tiny and we've been doing this as long as I can remember.
Mike getting creative with cookie cutters, he ended up making a huge cookie of Napoleon.  I've no idea why.
Getting the frosting ready to make colors.  I know you are wondering so it's this.  4 egg white, beat til foamy, add 1/2 tsp cream of tartar, 1/2 tsp vanilla and 5 cups confectioners sugar and beat til smooth.
Family around the table, one of my very favorite things in the world.

My fantastic nephew, proud new owner of TANDJ MOTORWORKS!!  http://tandjmotorworks.com/
My lovely niece Ashley and her roommate Jacqui.

Sissy and I, she always takes off her glasses for photos, I never do.
Recreating last year's photo gift with my Mom.  They are so silly.

That is the season thus far, looking forward to more family time here and away.
May all the blessings of the season be with you and yours.
