Hurricane Irene

Well now, that was exciting.  Hurricane Irene became Tropical Storm Irene but that made her no less dangerous.  While we are safe and sound with our power back many of our friends have no power still and our friends on the Western side of the storm got hosed.
We lost power early on and a few trees came down, but all in the woods surrounding the house.  Today dawned bright and cheery and the chickens were very glad to be outside again.

Our house is so sheltered that we took the kids out adventuring so they could have some idea of what this storm was really like.

This is our favorite beach, Menahaunt.  It is a 5 minute drive away.  A born and raised Cape Codder, I'd never seen the ocean so angry.
We went over to check on some friends, they had a live line down on the trees and a blown transformer.  Saw some more friends, everyone was checking it out.
We hung out for awhile playing Apples to Apples and later on, the wind was actually getting worse so we thought we'd all head out for another "look see".

We ended our day heating up leftovers for a shared supper with friends, thank God for a propane stovetop, playing Harry Potter Clue and saying an evening prayer for safety for family and friends.

beautiful! I love storms and you really captured it! I went to lighthouse beach the tale end of Bob back in 91 I think it was. It was so scary I will never forget it. Waves higher then buildings, dangerous to be on the beach. But like the wind they remind me of how awesome is God and how he is control. Thanks for sharing!! You make me wish we had ventured out.

Looks like it was not a fun few days, but it's good you are alright. I recently started a blog hop I'm hoping will become a geography resource for homeschoolers. It would be great if you grabed my button and linked up this post. Here's the link if you are interested.
