Guest Post by Mom

I got to giggling the other night, in retrospect, about an incident with your dad.
It is snowing.   It has been snowing ALL DAY,  rare even for these parts .  Your dad had been out and about but came home and decided to get the snow blower out and clean up the driveways a bit and cut in “crop circles” for the dog so she could go out back as opposed to my walking her risking life and limb on the slick pavement.
Clear, dry pavement takes on a whole new meaning when it is covered with ice and snow and I have to walk the dog , but I regress.
So I am in for the night, the smell of roasting chicken fills the house with it’s aroma and I am snug in my chair knitting and listening to my Christmas CDS.  The dog is asleep and the two cats are all curled up,  the very picture of tranquility right?  Wrong.

The scene is interrupted by your Dad calling me asking if I would get my coat on and come “help” him.
Having been married to a very stubborn, proud and handy man for almost 50 years now, I KNOW this does not bode well.  There is trouble and he needs help.
I am not altogether thrilled to help, but would never ever turn the man down, so I put on my boots, gloves, hat and coat and out I go.There the dear man stands looking at his snow blower which has been silenced.  What could be the problem and how bad can it be that he can’t fix it ?  He fixes everything!

Well,  it seems he went too close to the outdoor power cord that plugs into the outdoor bird bath heater and you guess it, it is wound around the auger of the snow blower tighter than a tick,  thus the silence.
While he tries to untangle the cord, he asked me to hold the handle bars down to lift up the auger so he can get too it,   his goal is NOT to cut the cord and ruin it .   That, alas, was not to be.  Three cuts later and much yanking, he decides that he simply cannot get the cord out of the machine and prepares to take it back to the shed.
Next thing,  I hear the snow blower RUNNING and look out to see him cleaning more snow  .I guess with the auger being untangled it will run but there is still  cord in a place where it should not be, he said he could probably fix it now.
God is good and very gracious.  The question always comes to mind, are we having fun yet?
