I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought; and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.  ~G.K. Chesterton

Today my list of things I am grateful for is random observations of my life right at this moment.

I am grateful for soup simmering on the stove.
"Do you have a kinder, more adaptable friend in the food world than soup? Who soothes you when you are ill? Who refuses to leave you when you are impoverished and stretches its resources to give a hearty sustenance and cheer? Who warms you in the winter and cools you in the summer? Yet who also is capable of doing honor to your richest table and impressing your most demanding guests? Soup does its loyal best, no matter what undignified conditions are imposed upon it. You don't catch steak hanging around when you're poor and sick, do you?"
~ Judith Martin (Miss Manners)

I am grateful for the first snow on the ground, however minimal, and the smile on Jenny's face when I brought her a breakfast snowball in bed.
"The first fall of snow is not only an event, it is a magical event. You go to bed in one kind of a world and wake up in another quite different, and if this is not enchantment then where is it to be found? "
~J. B. Priestley

I am grateful for companion animals that make me laugh and keep me in quiet company.
"The difference between friends and pets is that friends we allow into our company, pets we allow into our solitude."    ~Robert Brault
My husband might agree more with this one though...
"You enter into a certain amount of madness when you marry a person with pets."    ~Nora Ephron

I am thankful for hot tea on damp days.
"You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me."   ~C.S. Lewis
I am grateful for the quiet time I am blessed with as my children grow older and work more independently on their schoolwork.
"Come, Lord Jesus, and abide in my heart. How grateful I am to realize that the answer to my prayer does not depend on me at all. As I quietly abide in You and let Your life flow into me, what freedom it is to know that the Father does not see my threadbare patience or insufficient trust, rather only Your patience, Lord, and Your confidence that the Father has everything in hand. In Your faith I thank You right now for a more glorious answer to my prayer than I can imagine. Amen. "   ~ Catherine Marshall
"The unthankful heart... discovers no mercies; but let the thankful heart sweep through the day and, as the magnet finds the iron, so it will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessings!"
~Henry Ward Beecher

What a nice post! That cat sure is a party animal. The snowball was a great idea!
